ILOILO CITY — The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) awarded 82 local government units (LGUs) from across the country for their outstanding efforts in disaster preparedness and protection of public assets during the 2025 Seal of Protection Awards held in Iloilo City — marking the first time the ceremony was hosted outside Metro Manila.

GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso, whose remarks were delivered by Executive Vice President Jason Teng, praised the awardees for choosing long-term resilience over complacency. “You have chosen preparedness. You have chosen your constituents’ welfare. And your communities are safer because of it,” Veloso emphasized.

Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas welcomed the delegates and underscored the crucial role of insured government properties in ensuring uninterrupted public service. She noted that when assets are protected, communities can recover faster from fires, floods, and other emergencies. “It is not just buildings we safeguard; it is the continued service to our people,” she added.

This year’s roster of Gold Awardees includes Bayambang, Lingayen, Urdaneta, Solano, Valenzuela, the Provincial Government of Albay, Basud, San Vicente (Palawan), Bago City, Iloilo City, Davao City, Quezon City, Tanay, Makati City, and Pasig City. Makati and Pasig were also elevated to the Hall of Fame after securing Gold honors for three consecutive award cycles.

The complete list of the 82 awardees is available through the link provided by GSIS.

During the same event, GSIS likewise honored five institutions for their vital contributions to safeguarding government assets through general insurance: the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Asian Development Bank (ADB), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Clark Development Corporation, and the City Government of Iloilo.

The Seal of Protection program supports the mandate of Republic Act No. 656, which requires the insurance of government-owned properties. GSIS officials said the growing number of compliant LGUs demonstrates stronger nationwide efforts to build resilient, accountable, and disaster-ready local governments.|
