Magnitude 6.0 Earthquake Jolts Surigao del Sur

SURIGAO DEL SUR — A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck off the coast of Cagwait late Saturday night, October 11, 2025, shaking Surigao del Sur and nearby areas in Mindanao, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

Initially recorded at magnitude 6.2, the quake was later downgraded to 6.0 after further analysis. It occurred at 10:32 PM with a shallow depth of 10 kilometers and an epicenter 22 kilometers northeast of Cagwait.

The tremor was felt at Intensity IV in Cagwait, Carmen, and Davao City, and Intensity III in Bislig City and Mati City. Instrumental readings also showed Intensity IV in Tandag and Cabadbaran, among others.

No tsunami warning was issued, but PHIVOLCS warned of possible aftershocks.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), led by Alex M. Arana, placed local DRRM units on alert for inspections and monitoring. Residents were advised to stay vigilant, check structures for damage, and avoid coastal or landslide-prone areas.

As of 6:00 AM, October 12, no major injuries or serious damage had been reported.
