Meralco on alert as tropical storm Ramil sweeps across Luzon

Must read

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) assures its customers that its crews are fully prepared to respond to any possible electricity service concern as Tropical Storm Ramil (international name: Fengshen) continues to affect parts of Luzon.

With tropical cyclone wind signals raised in parts of the Meralco franchise area and rains expected to persist due to the storm’s movement, the distribution utility continues to closely monitor the weather situation to ensure timely action.

“Our crews and personnel are strategically positioned and remain on standby 24/7 to address any power-related issues. We urge our customers to prioritize safety and stay alert, especially in areas prone to flooding,” said Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications.

To help ensure safety during adverse weather conditions, Meralco reminds customers to observe the following electrical safety tips, especially in case of flooding:

  • Turn off the main power switch or circuit breaker. Make sure hands and feet are dry before touching any electrical equipment.
    * Unplug all appliances and turn off permanently connected devices. Remove light bulbs if possible.
    * Clean mud and debris from electrical equipment using rubber gloves and rubber-soled shoes.
    * Ensure all electrical wires, outlets, and devices are completely dry before use.
    * Have a licensed electrician inspect appliances and wiring systems before turning them back on. Never use flood-damaged electrical equipment.

Customers can report electricity service concerns through the My Meralco app or through Meralco’s official social media accounts on Facebook (www.facebook.com/meralco) and X formerly Twitter (@meralco). They may also text their concerns to 0920-9716211 or 0917-5516211 or contact the Meralco Hotline at 16211.|
