THE white-shell beach in Laiya, which is almost nine kilometers long, has fine granules made from worn shells and corals. It is not as powdery as Boracay, but it is just as picturesque.

The soft white sand here has been softened by the tropical sun as well as the soles of the many generations who have lived in Laiya. Before the shoreline was lined with fancy resorts, Laiya was a peaceful fishing community.
