Sto. Tomas, Batangas — SM City Sto. Tomas became a hub for youth empowerment and sustainable action as it successfully hosted the 13th Global Youth Summit 2025, drawing hundreds of students and young leaders from across the region.
The summit, organized in partnership with SM Cares, Global Peace Foundation Philippines, Bless Microfinance Corporation, Sto. Tomas Youth Development and Sports Division, Boy Scouts of the Philippines, SM Malls Online, and various youth organizations, aimed to amplify the voices of the youth in addressing today’s most pressing global challenges.

Held simultaneously in 17 SM malls nationwide, the summit aligned with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). At SM City Sto. Tomas, discussions centered on three key goals: Life on Land (SDG 15), Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), and Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10).
Expert speakers from the local government provided insight into sustainability initiatives in Sto. Tomas.
- Ms. Earl Angelica K. Lesaca, Forest Management Section Head of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), addressed land conservation and urban forestry efforts.
- Ms. Yessa G. Escarez, Air and Water Management Section Head of CENRO, discussed clean water systems and pollution control.
- Ms. Alice Perez-Olarte, Social Welfare Officer II of the City Social Welfare and Development Office, tackled issues surrounding inequality and social welfare.
The event also featured local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) owners, who shared personal success stories to inspire aspiring youth entrepreneurs.

Both highlighted the importance of innovation, resilience, and community support in growing local businesses.
The summit concluded with a Youth Pledge, led by volunteer Ms. Anna Lorraine Allego, serving as a call to action for participants to commit to sustainable practices and leadership within their communities.
