The SM Group, through its corporate arms SM Prime Holdings and SM Foundation, has formally handed over a newly constructed two-story, four-classroom school building to Bayanan II Elementary School in Calapan, Oriental Mindoro.
This initiative forms part of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Adopt-A-School Program and addresses the growing need for additional educational infrastructure in the region.
The new facility—SM Foundation’s 112th school building—was designed with a strong emphasis on both functionality and inclusivity. Each classroom is furnished with durable wood-and-steel armchairs, including provisions for left-handed students, and features panoramic whiteboards to enhance visibility. To ensure comfort and promote a conducive learning environment, wall-mounted fans have been installed for ventilation, and each classroom is equipped with a flush toilet and wash basin to maintain proper hygiene standards.
In addition to the classrooms, the building houses a faculty room, prayer room, clinic, and multiple storage areas, thereby supporting both students and teaching staff with enhanced facilities. A centralized handwashing station, fitted with 10 faucets and an overhead water tank, has also been constructed to promote regular hand hygiene among students.
Prioritizing safety and accessibility, the structure includes emergency lighting along staircases, a fire alarm system, and dedicated features for persons with disabilities, such as an accessible restroom and a wheelchair ramp.
As part of its broader commitment to digital education, and in partnership with Ace Hardware, the school will also receive a DigiHub. This digital learning center will be equipped with a router, smart television, 20 desktop computers with headsets and microphones, 10 computer tables, and 20 chairs. The facility aims to foster digital literacy and provide students with access to modern educational tools and resources.
According to SM Foundation, this donation reflects its ongoing mission to promote social good by supporting public education and uplifting communities across the Philippines.| BNN Intregrated News
