‘Selfie Diplomacy’: Congressman Romualdez and Councilor Marty bring ‘Asikaso’ to Leyte District Visit

Must read

TACLOBAN CITY — What began as a series of official infrastructure inspections transformed into a celebration of community spirit as Congressman Martin G. Romualdez and Councilor Marty Romualdez traversed the First District of Leyte. This “selfie diplomacy” defined the day, as the two leaders balanced technical reviews with heartfelt interactions, pausing frequently to share laughs and photos with the constituents they serve. From the bustling markets to quiet school corridors, the atmosphere remained electric, underscored by the Representative’s trademark “asikaso” (care).

The morning focused on progress in Sta. Fe and Alangalang, where the delegation conducted comprehensive reviews of vital projects. In Sta. Fe, the itinerary included the new Legislative Building and an integrated evacuation center designed for public safety. The visit to Alangalang highlighted a robust pipeline of completed infrastructure within the municipality, including a new gymnasium, a modern Barangay Hall, an additional school building, and a network of strategic farm-to-market roads designed to empower local commerce. The highlight was the completion of a new ladies’ dormitory at the Visayas State University campus, alongside a festive stop at the new gymnasium where the Congressman personally initiated group photos with local senior citizens.

The momentum shifted toward essential services by midday, with stops in San Miguel to support the local agricultural and healthcare sectors. Congressman Romualdez met directly with the Irrigators Association and local farmers to oversee the delivery of support services before inspecting the Brgy. Libtong Infirmary Hospital. By emphasizing accessible healthcare and disaster-ready evacuation rooms, the visit reinforced a holistic approach to development that prioritizes the well-being of every Leyteño family.

The day concluded with spirited barangay assemblies where the two leaders worked side-by-side to address the concerns of market vendors and transport groups. Councilor Marty Romualdez added a youthful energy to these consultations, helping bridge the gap between policy and the people. Reflecting on the productive tour, Congressman Romualdez noted the significance of the personal connection.

“It is always a privilege to come home and see the progress we are making together,” Cong. Romualdez said. “Seeing the happy faces of my constituents and having Councilor Marty by my side as we serve the people makes this work even more meaningful. We are here not just to build structures, but to build a better life for every family in Leyte.”|PR
