Duterte expects NBI action over Gracioso affidavit after evidence review

Vice President Sara Z. Duterte said she expects the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to file a case against Gracioso after completing its investigation and evaluating evidence concerning an affidavit she disputes.

In an October 5, 2026 statement, Duterte said NBI Director Melvin Matibag had noted the possibility of a perjury case if the allegations are proven false.

“We expect a case to be filed by the NBI against Gracioso once the agency completes its investigation and the evidence is fully evaluated,” she said.

The statement conveyed Duterte’s expectation of legal action. It did not announce a completed investigation or a filed case.

Duterte confirmed receiving the Gracioso affidavit from the NBI, together with identification documents, but said there were no other attachments.

She said her camp counted 29 statements concerning her that they believe are false.

Among the matters she challenged were claims involving her whereabouts and those of Jefry Tupas. Duterte said neither was near Marinduque during Holy Week in 2019 and that they were not in Manila on September 21, 2019.

She cited these assertions as part of her evidence, although the statement did not include supporting documents or set out the affidavit’s disputed passages.

The possible perjury action described in the statement remains conditional on the allegations being proven false and the completion of the investigative process.| BNN Integrated News
