Commuters and motorists traveling between Parañaque City and Taguig City can now expect a significantly shorter journey as President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the inspection and formal opening of the CAVITEX C5 Link Segment 3B this Monday, March 30. The newly completed segment is designed to reduce travel time from the previous 1.5 hours down to just 15 minutes, providing a vital alternative route as the country prepares for the heavy traffic flow of the Lenten season.
The infrastructure project completes the final phase of the CAVITEX C5 Link, an expressway network projected to serve approximately 36,000 vehicles daily. By linking key areas in the southern part of Metro Manila, the connector road aims to streamline the movement of people and goods, lower logistics costs, and mitigate the persistent gridlock in the capital’s southern corridors.
During the inspection, the President emphasized the economic impact of the project, particularly regarding fuel efficiency. He noted that the reduced travel time serves as a buffer against volatile oil prices currently influenced by ongoing tensions in the Middle East. President Marcos Jr. remarked: “Hindi maliit na bagay ang bawasan ang biyahe mula isa’t kalahating oras hanggang 15 minuto. Malaking savings ‘yan.” (“It is no small thing to reduce the trip from an hour and a half to 15 minutes. That is a huge saving.”)
The Chief Executive was joined during the site visit by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon and Department of Transportation (DOTr) Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez. Secretary Dizon highlighted that this opening is part of a broader infrastructure push, noting that other transport projects are on the horizon, including the Central Luzon Link Expressway (CLLEX) which is set to connect Tarlac City and Cabanatuan City.
In a move to provide immediate relief to the public during Holy Week, authorities announced that toll fees for Segment 3B will be waived for a full month. Starting today, March 30, until April 30, 2026, motorists may use the new segment free of charge. This grace period is intended to encourage the use of the new expressway and ease the transition for regular commuters.|
