ROME — It was a day of pride, service, and celebration for Filipinos in Italy as hundreds of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) gathered for the “Bagong Bayani ng Mundo – OFW Serbisyo Caravan” held in Rome on October 12.
Fresh from attending the Jubilee Mass led by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos dropped by Atlantico Live to meet the Filipino community and check out the different government service booths. She even tried out some local treats prepared by members of the Philippine Chambers of Commerce in Italy, giving the event a true Pinoy fiesta vibe.
Joining her were DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan, and Philippine Ambassador to Italy Neal Imperial—all there to make sure government services reach Filipinos wherever they are.
Cacdac took time to listen to the stories and concerns of OFWs, saying the caravan proves the Marcos administration’s commitment to bring government support right to the doorsteps of Filipinos abroad. Caunan, meanwhile, praised the Filipino community in Italy for their bayanihan spirit and volunteerism, calling them a “shining example of unity and compassion.”
And of course, no Filipino gathering is complete without some music! The event turned into a mini concert when SB19 hit the stage, getting the crowd on their feet, waving flags, and singing along to their favorite hits. Local talents such as Maricel Calimlim, SPYM Band, Pinoy Teens Hermes, Gabriel Sarmiento, and Armand Curaming also wowed the audience, showing that Pinoy creativity thrives even overseas.
Aside from the fun, essential services were available on-site—from passport renewal and OWWA membership to free health checks and business consultations, courtesy of DSWD, DTI, DOT, and SSS.
For many, it was more than just a caravan—it was a celebration of being Filipino, even thousands of miles from home. 🇵🇭✨|
