The DOST – Quezon, in partnership with the Sustainability Department of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) – Lucena, successfully conducted a Seminar on Basic Food Hygiene and Food Safety Hazards for MSEUF – Lucena canteen concessionaires on January 26, 2026.
The collaborative effort reflects the shared commitment of DOST-Quezon and MSEUF -Lucena in promoting public health, strengthening food safety awareness, and ensuring safe and hygienic food services within the university campus. A total of 29 participants attended the training, composed of concessionaires from various food service firms and MSEUF personnel.
Mr. John Michael A. Florendo, Senior Science Research Specialist and Food Safety Team member at DOST-Quezon, served as the resource speaker. The discussion centered on basic food hygiene as the foundation of food safety. Key topics included sanitary permits and health certificates, quality and protection of food, primary production, establishment design of facilities and equipment, training and competence, establishment maintenance, cleaning and disinfection, pest control, personal hygiene, control of operations, product information and consumer awareness, transportation, and special provisions. The speaker also highlighted practical approaches in preventing contamination, improving sanitation programs, and complying with regulatory requirements.
Through this joint initiative, DOST-Quezon and MSEUF Lucena reaffirm their commitment to fostering a culture of food safety, cleanliness, and responsibility, contributing to the protection of consumer health and the delivery of quality campus food services.| Raiza Lyn N.
