Manila, 4 September 2025 – The Republic of the Philippines will assume the prestigious role of Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025, marking a significant milestone in the country’s cultural and literary diplomacy. Over 400 Filipino delegates—comprising authors, artists, illustrators, publishers, and cultural workers—will represent the nation at the world’s largest and most influential book fair.

At the core of the Philippine participation is the 2,000-square-meter Philippine Guest of Honour Pavilion (PHL GOH), themed “The imagination peoples the air.” Designed by Stanley Ruiz and curated by Patrick Flores, the pavilion offers an immersive and dynamic experience that highlights indigenous materials, sustainable design, and Filipino creative expression. The space will feature over 500 Philippine book titles, installations by noted artists, and a robust program of over 100 literary events.

The curated events—led by Karina Bolasco—will address critical global themes including democracy, human rights, climate change, and cultural identity. Key participants include Nobel Laureate Maria Ressa, trauma journalist Patricia Evangelista, and National Artists Ryan Cayabyab and Virgilio Almario, among others.

Beyond the pavilion, the Philippines will maintain a strong presence through the Philippine Stand, Asia Stage, and Comics Stand, with a total of 65 additional sessions on Southeast Asian publishing, translation, and creative industries.

The country’s Guest of Honour status reflects its emergence as a creative economy in Asia, valued at ₱1.94 trillion in 2024. Spearheaded by Senator Loren Legarda, with support from national cultural institutions, the initiative also highlights the NBDB’s Translation Subsidy Program, which has enabled the translation of 173 titles since 2024.

The Frankfurt Book Fair will take place from 15 to 19 October 2025, showcasing the Philippines on the global literary stage.|
