Sea Trips Cancelled in Caraga as Storm ‘Tino’ Gathers Strength

Caraga Region — All sea travel has been put on hold in the Caraga Region as Severe Tropical Storm “Tino” (Kalmaegi) continues to intensify while heading toward the Philippines, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

PCG stations in Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, and Dinagat Islands are enforcing a “No Sail” policy to keep travelers, fishermen, and boat operators safe. Strong winds, big waves, and poor visibility make sea travel dangerous.

In Dinagat Islands, Station Commander Ens. Mark Rudolf Garcia ordered a pause on all trips. Only cargo RORO vessels carrying essential goods to Surigao City are allowed to sail—but with strict rules: daytime trips only, clear weather, no passengers except cargo drivers, and loads not above 75 percent capacity.

In Surigao del Norte, Station Commander Ens. Roy Christopher Orillaneda issued the same order. He also deployed the Coast Guard’s response team to warn residents in coastal communities and remind them to stay safe and avoid the sea.

PCG stations in Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Sur also called on fishermen to secure their boats, seek shelter, and avoid taking unnecessary risks. Idle boats must be anchored or towed to safer places to prevent them from drifting.

According to PAGASA, “Tino” has grown stronger while moving west over the Philippine Sea. As of 10 p.m. on November 2, the storm was spotted 605 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, with maximum winds of 100 km/h and gusts reaching 125 km/h.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 is up over Siargao, Bucas Grande, Dinagat Islands, and parts of Eastern Samar. Signal No. 1 is raised over Surigao del Norte, northern Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, and nearby provinces.

PAGASA warns of very rough seas, floods, and landslides, and says “Tino” may strengthen into a typhoon before hitting land late Monday or early Tuesday.

The Coast Guard is reminding everyone to stay updated, avoid sea travel, and follow official advisories to stay safe.|  BNN Integrated News – Mindanao Bureau
