Malacañang has announced the suspension of government work and classes in several regions early next week as the country braces for the potential onslaught of Super Typhoon “Uwan.”
Through Memorandum Circular No. 106, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin by authority of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., work in government offices will be suspended on Monday, November 10, in Metro Manila, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and the regions of Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas.
The same circular ordered the suspension of classes at all levels in the said regions — as well as in Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and the Negros Island Region — for two days, November 10 and 11, to ensure public safety amid the typhoon’s expected heavy rains and strong winds.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) recommended the move, warning of major impacts from “Uwan,” which is expected to bring torrential rain, flooding, and possible landslides in several provinces.
Despite the suspension, Bersamin clarified that agencies involved in disaster response, health, and essential public services must remain operational. Other government offices may adopt alternative work arrangements to ensure the continuity of vital functions.
Meanwhile, the private sector has been given discretion to decide whether to suspend work, depending on local weather conditions. Local government units (LGUs) in unaffected areas may also declare their own suspensions if necessary.
As “Uwan” continues to intensify, authorities urge the public to stay indoors, monitor advisories, and prepare emergency supplies to ensure safety throughout the storm.|
