LEMERY, Batangas — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has confirmed that no oil spill resulted from the grounding of LCT Felicity 8 off the waters of Lemery, Batangas at the height of Super Typhoon Uwan on Saturday, November 8.
According to the PCG report, the landing craft tank was originally seeking shelter at Pagapas Bay in Calatagan due to severe weather conditions when strong winds and currents caused it to drift toward the shallower portion of the bay. The vessel is operated by Silver Sand Shipping Corporation.
The incident was first reported by the barangay chairperson of Barangay Wawa Ilaya to the Coast Guard Sub-station (CGSS) in Lemery, prompting immediate monitoring and coordination efforts.
PCG personnel confirmed that Felicity 8 remained stable and sustained no major structural damage. Authorities likewise assured the public that the incident did not lead to any oil discharge or marine pollution in nearby waters.
The Coast Guard continues to maintain close communication with the vessel’s master as part of ongoing monitoring and extraction planning to ensure that the grounding is safely and efficiently resolved.
Meanwhile, the PCG announced that a marine casualty investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances that led to the vessel’s grounding and to assess whether proper safety and navigational protocols were observed.
The Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog emphasized that ensuring maritime safety and protecting the marine environment remain top priorities, especially during severe weather events.| – BNN Integrated News
