GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite — The Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) Subsection 3 formally opens on Monday, May 4, marking a significant development in Southern Luzon’s transportation network. With the extension reaching the Governor’s Drive Interchange in General Trias, Cavite, the usual one-hour travel time from Biñan City, Laguna, will now be drastically reduced to just 26 minutes.
The newly completed 7.88-kilometer stretch is designed to help alleviate persistent traffic congestion in both provinces. The segment is set to officially open to the motoring public at 12 midnight today.
As an introductory promotion, motorists can use the CALAX Subsection 3 stretch—from the Governor’s Drive Interchange to the Aguinaldo Interchange—free of charge for all vehicle classes for one month.
However, expressway management clarified that existing toll fees will still apply for Subsections 4 to 8, which cover the route from Mamplasan in Biñan, Laguna, to Silang (Aguinaldo) in Cavite. Any subsequent updates on toll collections will be announced by the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) in coordination with CALAX management.
The operational length of CALAX now spans 26 kilometers starting from the Mamplasan Entry. The expansion is expected to accommodate an additional 6,000 motorists daily, providing a much-needed alternative route for commuters and commercial transport alike.
Once fully completed, the entire 44.6-kilometer CALAX project will connect the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) in Kawit directly to the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in Mamplasan.
The finalized network will feature eight strategic interchanges: Laguna Technopark, Laguna Boulevard, Santa Rosa–Tagaytay, Silang East, Silang (Aguinaldo), Governor’s Drive, Open Canal, and Kawit. Upon its full integration with CAVITEX, the combined expressway network is projected to serve up to 95,000 vehicles per day, acting as a crucial regional backbone for trade and mobility.
