BIÑAN, Laguna — Defending champion Abra Solid North weathered a late rally by host Biñan to escape with a 63-53 victory on Saturday and strengthen its hold on the top spot in the North Division of the 2026 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) at the Alonte Sports Arena.
DJ Fenner scored seven crucial points in the final five minutes as the Weavers pulled away from a tense contest to improve to 18-1, extending their winning streak to 16 games.
Biñan threatened after Renzo Subido’s three-pointer trimmed the deficit to 51-49, but reigning MVP Dave Ildefonso answered with a triple before Fenner and Shaun Ildefonso combined for a decisive run that sealed the victory.
Dave Ildefonso finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two blocks to earn Best Player honors for the third straight game. Fenner contributed 14 points and seven rebounds, while Jake Figueroa added 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Raven Gonzales also anchored Abra’s defense with nine rebounds and three blocks.
The loss snapped Biñan’s 13-game winning streak as it dropped to 16-4, remaining third in the South Division behind Batangas (15-3) and Quezon Province (14-2). Nic Cabanero led Biñan with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
In the day’s first game, Ilagan Isabela recovered from a slow start to beat Negros, 101-89, improving to 13-7. Arth Dela Cruz posted 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Allen Mina added 17 points.
Meanwhile, Meycauayan-Marilao defeated Parañaque, 91-80, behind Jimboy Pasturan’s 22 points highlighted by six three-pointers. Agem Miranda chipped in 16 points and nine assists as the Gems improved to 11-9.
Parañaque fell to 2-21 despite 25 points from Dom Matillano.
The MPBL resumes Monday at the Mandaluyong College of Science and Technology Gym with Mindoro facing Bulacan, Cebu taking on Quezon Province, and Quezon City battling General Santos.|
