ANTIPOLO CITY — One Meralco Foundation (OMF) and B&M Global Services Manila (GSM) have installed a solar photovoltaic system at Libis Elementary School, pairing renewable energy infrastructure with equipment that supports digital classroom instruction.
The project provides electricity to the off-grid school’s facilities, computers and multimedia tools, benefiting more than 200 students and teachers.
Implemented through OMF’s School Electrification Program, the initiative addresses the school’s energy gap while making interactive educational resources more accessible.
Meralco employees complemented the installation through the Meralco Employees Fund for Charity, Inc. (MEFCI), donating a television set, printer, laptop and speaker.
B&M GSM Executive Director Lorie Barredo and employee-volunteers also distributed Balik Eskwela kits containing learning materials.
Barredo said the partnership aims to support a learning environment where children can develop confidence and curiosity, while showing that development can reach remote communities.
OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao said aligning organizational resources can turn infrastructure projects into broader opportunities.
“When organizations align their resources and purpose, we do more than just build or improve infrastructure—we create opportunities and light up futures,” he said.
School Principal Jinky Martinez said the solar installation would also allow teachers to discuss renewable energy and environmental care with learners.
The turnover received support from school officials, representatives of the Antipolo City government and the Department of Education, and Meralco personnel.
Since 2011, OMF has energized 309 off-grid public schools nationwide as part of its commitment to supporting education and digital learning in last-mile communities.| – BNN Integrated News
