Must read

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) assured the public of its readiness to swiftly address electricity service concerns as Typhoon Paolo continued to bring rains across Luzon.

With portions of its franchise area placed under Wind Signal No. 1, the power distributor said it remains on full alert to ensure prompt response to the impact of the inclement weather.

Meralco also reminded customers to stay updated through official advisories and prioritize safety by taking preventive measures against electrical hazards, especially in flood-prone areas.

“We advise our customers to exercise extra caution to ensure their safety, as the threat of flooding heightens the risk of electrical accidents,” said Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications.

Meralco urged customers to observe the following safety measures, especially when there is flooding:

  • Immediately switch off the main electrical power switch or circuit breaker.
  • Do not touch electrical wirings and appliances with wet hands or while standing on a damp or flooded surface.
  • Unplug all appliances and turn off permanently connected equipment. If possible, also
    remove light bulbs.
  • Stay away from exposed or dangling electrical wires.
  • After floodwaters subside, have a licensed electrician inspect your electrical system before
    restoring power.

To report power outages and other concerns, customers may reach Meralco through its official social media pages on Facebook (www.facebook.com/meralco) and X (@meralco). They may also text their concerns to 0920-9716211 and 0917-5516211 or contact the Meralco Hotline at 16211.|
