No Pinoys Hurt in Papua New Guinea Quake — DFA Assures

Must read

MANILA — Good news! All Filipinos in Papua New Guinea are safe and sound after a magnitude 6.7 earthquake hit the city of Lae last October 7, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

In a statement released Wednesday, the DFA said there were no injuries or damages reported, and our kababayans in Lae and nearby areas are all accounted for.

“No damage was reported in Lae. According to the Philippine Embassy in Port Moresby, the Filipino community in Lae City and surrounding areas are safe,” the DFA confirmed.

They also shared that the Philippine Embassy in Port Moresby is actively monitoring the situation and keeping close contact with the local Filipino community.

Fun fact: Around 36,000 Filipinos currently live and work in Papua New Guinea — and thankfully, they’re all okay!

No Filipinos Caught in Mt. Everest Blizzard

In other news, the DFA also confirmed that no Filipino hikers were involved in the recent blizzard on Mt. Everest that left nearly 1,000 people stranded over the weekend.

The sudden snowstorm hit the Tibetan side of the famous mountain and triggered massive rescue operations. Sadly, one casualty was reported.

But here’s the good part: everyone has since been rescued, and hikers were safely brought down to Qudeng Township and nearby areas.

Stay safe, everyone! Whether it’s earthquakes or snowstorms, it’s always a relief to hear that our fellow Filipinos are safe abroad.| – BNN Integrated News
