Meralco restores power in habagat-affected areas, monitors typhoon Opong

Must read

MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is conducting round-the-clock restoration efforts in areas affected by power outages caused by the intensified southwest monsoon (habagat), enhanced by Super Typhoon Nando.

The power utility also remains on heightened alert as a new tropical depression—expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR)—may bring further adverse weather conditions. Once inside the PAR, the system will be locally named Opong.

As of 2:00 p.m., approximately 16,000 customers have experienced service interruptions, with the majority located in Cavite and Quezon provinces.

“We assure our customers that our crews are working tirelessly to safely restore power in the affected areas,” said Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga. “We urge everyone to observe electrical safety precautions, particularly in areas prone to flooding.”

Zaldarriaga added that Meralco continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure a prompt and coordinated response to any electricity-related concerns arising from the ongoing inclement weather.

Customers may report power interruptions or other service issues through Meralco’s official social media channels on Facebook (www.facebook.com/meralco) and X (formerly Twitter) via @meralco. Inquiries and reports may also be sent via SMS to 0920-9716211 or 0917-5516211, or by calling the Meralco Hotline at 16211.| – BNN Integrated News
