MANILA, Philippines — Ako Bicol party-list Representative Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co has officially resigned from the House of Representatives, effective Monday, September 29, 2025, as investigations continue into his alleged involvement in a multibillion-peso flood control fund controversy.
In a formal letter addressed to House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III and House Committee on Ethics and Privileges Chair Rep. Jonathan Clement Abalos (4Ps party-list), Co cited serious threats to his family’s safety and a lack of due process as reasons behind his decision.
“Due to the real, direct, grave, and imminent threat to the lives of my family and me, and the evident denial of my right to due process of law, I am constrained to tender with immediate effect my irrevocable resignation as a member of the House of Representatives,” he wrote.
Co also stated that the Ako Bicol Party-list would soon nominate his replacement.
While he continues to deny the allegations, Co’s resignation comes shortly after the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) recommended the filing of charges against him and several Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials over so-called “ghost projects.”
In previous statements, Co insisted that neither he nor his family lived a lavish lifestyle, rejecting public speculation about unexplained wealth or misconduct.
The case has attracted significant public attention, particularly from young voters concerned about government accountability and transparency in infrastructure spending.| – THeMetroTimes.ph
