Justice Sec. Remulla named New Ombudsman by President Marcos

Must read

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has officially appointed Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla as the next Ombudsman, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) confirmed on Tuesday.

Remulla takes over from Samuel Martires, whose term ended in July.

In a statement, Malacañang emphasized that the administration is “serious about fighting corruption wherever it exists.” As Ombudsman, Remulla is expected to push for transparency, strengthen anti-corruption efforts, and make sure justice is served fairly and efficiently.

Remulla has led the Department of Justice (DOJ) since June 2022. Under his leadership, the DOJ launched key reforms to modernize the justice system, speed up legal processes, and reduce prison overcrowding.

The PCO highlighted Remulla’s long public service career, saying he’s “earned respect for his integrity and commitment,” having previously served as a congressman, governor, and lawyer.

“There will be no sacred cows, no exemptions, and no excuses,” the statement continued. “Public office is a public trust — and anyone who breaks that trust will be held accountable.”

As of now, President Marcos has not yet named who will take over as the new DOJ Secretary.| – BNN Integrated News
