Sony Pictures Reveals Lead Cast for Sam Mendes’ Four-Film Beatles Project

Must read

Sony Pictures has confirmed the lead cast for The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event, directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes in partnership with Neal Street Productions.

The film series will star Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen “Mo” Cox Starkey, first wife of Ringo Starr; Saoirse Ronan as Linda Eastman McCartney, celebrated photographer and wife of Paul McCartney; Anna Sawai as avant-garde artist Yoko Ono; and Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, model and former wife of George Harrison.

“Maureen, Linda, Yoko and Pattie are four fascinating and unique figures in their own right,” Mendes said. “I’m thrilled that four of the most talented women in film today are joining this project.”

This is the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and members of The Beatles—John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr—have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film production. Each of the four films will be told from the perspective of a different band member, ultimately weaving together the story of the iconic group.

The ensemble cast also includes Harris Dickinson, Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal, and Joseph Quinn. Additional casting for roles such as Cynthia Lennon, Brian Epstein, George Martin, and Ravi Shankar will be announced in the coming months.

Produced by Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris, Julie Pastor, and Alexandra Derbyshire, the films are scheduled for a global theatrical release in April 2028. Sony Pictures will finance and handle worldwide distribution.

McKenna-Bruce earned acclaim for How to Have Sex, which won the Un Certain Regard Award at Cannes and earned her a BAFTA Rising Star Award. Ronan, a four-time Academy Award nominee, is known for Lady Bird, Little Women, and Brooklyn. Sawai received international praise for Shōgun, winning Emmy and Golden Globe Awards, while Wood is recognized for Sex Education and The White Lotus Season 3.

The project is a Neal Street Production in association with Apple Corps. In the Philippines, the films will be distributed by Columbia Pictures, the local branch of Sony Pictures Releasing International.|- Sheenalei Briana G. Rayos
