The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is set to energize several major transmission projects in 2026 following the completion of critical upgrades and expansion works aimed at strengthening grid stability and reliability nationwide.
Among the projects targeted for completion this year are the Amlan–Dumaguete 138kV transmission line worth PhP1.9 billion, the Tuguegarao–Lal-lo (Magapit) 230kV transmission line valued at PhP2.4 billion, and the Tuy 500/230kV Substation Stage 1 project, including the Tuy–Dasmariñas 500kV line component, with an approved cost of PhP8.1 billion. NGCP is also advancing the Nabas–Caticlan–Boracay 138kV transmission line worth PhP4.2 billion and the Tacurong–Kalamansig 69kV transmission line valued at nearly PhP758 million.
Additional initiatives include the completion of Stage 2 of the Visayas Substation Reliability Project and the relocation of steel poles along the Hermosa–Duhat 230kV transmission line. These projects aim to address rising power demand, improve system security and power quality, and support the integration of new generating plants, including renewable energy facilities. They also complement major grid backbone and island interconnection programs.
In 2025, NGCP completed upgrades and expansions across 14 substations nationwide, installing new transformer capacities ranging from 50MVA to 1,000MVA to boost grid performance. Voltage improvement projects were also carried out in several substations, including Tigaon, Malvar, Baybay, Sta. Barbara, and Zamboanga.
NGCP said the developments highlight its commitment to delivering safe, secure, and reliable power transmission services despite ongoing right-of-way and permitting challenges. The company has renewed its call for stronger support from the Department of Energy, other government agencies, and local government units to expedite permit approvals and ensure the timely implementation of critical transmission infrastructure projects.|
