MANILA – The Philippine-American Educational Foundation, together with the Commission on Higher Education, Department of Tourism, Department of Foreign Affairs, and the United States Embassy in the Philippines, has launched a new initiative aimed at positioning the country as a global study destination for American students.

The Consortium for Study Abroad in the Philippines (CSAP), unveiled on March 24, brings together 15 leading higher education institutions into a unified network that will facilitate short-term courses, semester exchanges, and faculty-led programs for students from U.S. universities.

The initiative seeks to rebalance student mobility, which has long seen Filipinos traveling abroad for education, by encouraging more American students to study in the Philippines.

“CSAP is more than just a network; it is a unified national gateway built on strategic pillars such as academic rigor, duty of care, and streamlined mobility,” said July Amador III.

Jessica Simon highlighted the role of academic exchanges in strengthening bilateral ties, noting growing interest among American students in fields such as marine biology, agriculture, and environmental science.

Meanwhile, CHED Chairperson Shirley Agrupis emphasized the importance of program reliability and credit transfer systems to ensure a seamless academic experience.

The initiative also supports education tourism, with the Department of Tourism promoting cultural immersion programs nationwide.

Founding members of the consortium include Ateneo de Davao University, University of the Philippines Los Baños, University of the Philippines Visayas, and Silliman University, offering programs across various disciplines.

Officials said the initiative marks a significant step in establishing the Philippines as a hub for international education in Southeast Asia.|
