Amaze. Amaze. Amaze! Epic space adventure Project Hail Mary launched with the highest-grossing film debut of the year, landing at a $140.9 million box office opening weekend. The film opened to $80.5 million in North America, and captured an additional $60.4 million from international markets. The film is an adaptation of The Martian author Andy Weir’s novel of the same name, directed by duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

The film’s celestial momentum carried over to the Philippines, where it earned PHP29,258,184 on its first five days, securing its place as the biggest Hollywood opening weekend of 2026. Boosted by stellar reviews and audience word-of-mouth, the film is now the highest-grossing Hollywood original, non-franchise opening since Oppenheimer.

In this gripping sci-fi adventure, Ryan Gosling stars as science teacher Ryland Grace, who awakens alone on a spacecraft with no memory of his past or his mission. As his memories return, Ryland realizes he is humanity’s last hope: tasked with saving a dying sun and preventing an extinction event on Earth. However, the mission takes an unexpected turn when Ryland encounters an alien ally he calls “Rocky,” and the two must work together to save their home worlds.

Project Hail Mary is now showing in Philippine cinemas and is distributed by Columbia Pictures, the local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International. Watch the trailer here, and join the mission on social media using the hashtag #ProjectHailMary and follow @columbiapicph for updates.|
