SAN REMIGIO, Antique — Public schools in San Remigio are all set for the opening of classes on Monday, with education officials assuring parents and students that schools are prepared to welcome learners for the new academic year.
Dr. Demar Cahilig, supervisor of District 1, said the district’s 21 public schools—including two secondary schools, 17 elementary schools, and two integrated schools—have completed preparations following the annual Brigada Eskwela program.
“We are ready to welcome our learners,” Cahilig said, adding that enrollment figures are expected to be nearly the same as last school year.
District 1 recorded 1,944 elementary pupils and 1,004 secondary students during the previous school year.
Cahilig credited the successful implementation of Brigada Eskwela, the week-long school maintenance and cleanup campaign, for helping ensure classrooms and school facilities are ready for students’ return.
Meanwhile, access to senior high school education has been expanded in the municipality with the opening of SHS programs at the San Remigio Integrated School in Barangay Baladjay and the Aningalan Integrated Farm School in Barangay Aningalan.
The new offering means students from San Remigio Integrated School can continue their senior high school education without having to travel to the town center.
Likewise, learners from the upland community served by Aningalan Integrated Farm School will no longer need to transfer to Gov. Evelio B. Javier Memorial National High School in a neighboring village to complete their senior high school studies.
Education officials said the expansion is expected to make senior high school more accessible to students, particularly those living in remote areas, while easing transportation costs for families.
