ON Friday, May 5, 2023, the WHO declared an end to COVID-19 as a global health emergency that has killed 6.9 million people and tremendously impacted the global economy.

The Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) encourages the public again to adhere to the minimum public health standards, including wearing face masks, observing physical distancing, and washing of hands, despite the lifting of the global health emergency declaration for COVID-19 by the World Health Organization (WHO).

As of May 10, 2023, DOH CALABARZON recorded 133 new COVID-19 cases in the region. Of the additional cases, 104 were mild, 4 were moderate, and 22 were asymptomatic. Currently, there are 1,005 active cases. Meanwhile, DOH said that the counts do not represent the actual number and are subject to change after including delayed reports and updates in counts following validations.

“Sa kabila po ng pag-lift ng global health emergency declaration sa COVID-19, nananatili pong banta ang virus sa ating paligid. Kaya huwag tayo pakampante. There is an increase in the trend of COVID-19 cases in the region. So, we continuously urge everyone to strictly adhere  to the minimum public health standards,” said DOH CALABARZON Regional Director Ariel I. Valencia.

The DOH continues to encourage the public to avail of the second COVID-19 booster shot, which remains the most effective public health intervention at preventing serious illness or death from COVID-19.

Further, the DOH warns the public against other summer diseases such as heatstroke, food poisoning, diarrhea, dehydration, eye diseases (conjunctivitis), measles, flu, and others due to high temperatures.|
