BGC, TAGUIG City — NAC Foundation, Inc. (NACFI), the philanthropic arm of natural resource company Nickel Asia Corp., recently signed a memorandum of understanding with St. Luke’s Medical Center Foundation, Inc. (SLMCFI) to provide a LigaSure surgical device worth P1.5 million for the upcoming joint medical mission in Borongan, Eastern Samar.

The LigaSure machine uses advanced technology that seals blood vessels using electrical currents, allowing for more precise and efficient surgical procedures compared to traditional methods. Its use is anticipated to streamline surgical processes and improve outcomes for patients undergoing free ENT, Head, and Neck surgeries during the medical mission.

“This particular machine cuts operating time by a third, kasi hindi na magsu-suture, a lot of it is cut and sealed. You could do more surgeries, healing time is also cut short so you could do more,” St. Luke’s Medical Center Foundation President Dr. Benjamin S. A. Campomanes, Jr. said.

The upcoming medical and surgical missions which will pilot in Borongan City, Eastern Samar is part of the partnership between NACFI and SLMCFI. This initiative aims to bring quality healthcare to remote areas of the Philippines.

“On behalf of the province of Eastern Samar, I’d like to thank the NAC family and of course the St. Lukes family for this opportunity for our people to have access to medical services which we badly need in the province. Kami po ay nagpapasalamat and we are in full support of this initiative of NAC and the St. Lukes Foundation,” said Eastern Samar Governor Ben P. Evardone.

Following the medical mission in Borongan City, Eastern Samar, NAC will carry out medical and surgical missions across its operating companies in Surigao and Palawan.

“Our partnership with St. Luke’s Medical Center Foundation, Inc. underscores our dedication to contribute to attaining Sustainable Development Goal 3, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being, especially in underserved areas,” NAC President and CEO Martin Antonio G. Zamora said. |
