Leaders and stakeholders of First Gen Corporation and Energy Development Corporation celebrated five decades of geothermal leadership, underscoring a renewed commitment to a decarbonized and regenerative future powered by clean energy.
Speaking before guests that included Sharon Garin, company officials highlighted the role of geothermal energy in reducing the country’s reliance on imported fuel and strengthening energy security since its development began in 1976.
The milestone also served as a moment of reflection on the growing urgency of climate action. Company leaders recalled the devastating impact of Typhoon Yolanda on geothermal facilities in Leyte, describing it as a turning point that reinforced their responsibility to future generations.
They emphasized that geothermal energy remains one of the most reliable renewable sources, capable of providing steady, 24/7 power, making it a critical component in achieving net-zero emissions. With the Philippines’ vast geothermal potential, officials said the country is uniquely positioned to lead in advancing this technology.
First Gen-EDC reaffirmed its commitment to scaling up renewable energy solutions to address the global climate crisis, noting that the transition to clean energy will require unprecedented expansion worldwide.
The company also expressed gratitude to its partners, stakeholders, and employees for their continued support, as it looks ahead to further innovation and leadership in geothermal energy over the next 50 years.|
