MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Press Institute (PPI) is addressing the dual challenges of fighting disinformation and securing financial sustainability as it celebrates its 62nd anniversary at the Lucky Chinatown Hotel in Manila for a three-day summit running from June 4 to 6.

The national association of newspapers and online publications aims to tackle the transformative shift brought by digital innovations, ensuring that newsrooms maintain their credibility while expanding revenue streams.

Highlighting today’s agenda for the National Press Forum is the pressing need to navigate the rapidly evolving media landscape. Jose Bayani D. Baylon, Senior Vice President for Sustainability, Risk Management and Corporate Affairs at Nickel Asia Corporation, is slated to deliver the keynote address.

A major focal point of today’s forum is the integration of new technologies in journalism, with media advisor Jaemark Tordecilla leading a highly anticipated lecture and hands-on workshop focused on the use of artificial intelligence for community newsrooms.

The organization officially kicked off the milestone event yesterday with its General Membership Meeting and the Community Press Awards. The awards ceremony, which honors journalism excellence across various categories such as environmental reporting, business and economic reporting, and photojournalism.

Top community publications from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao are competing for major accolades in both weekly and daily categories, alongside recognitions for the best news websites.

It was subsequently followed by a fellowship dinner hosted by Megaworld Corporation under the leadership of Harold Geronimo, First Vice President of Corporate Communications and Media Affairs.

In addition to the awards and educational forums, the gathering features the PPI Media-Citizen Councils Roundtable Discussion, bringing together heads from 14 media-citizen councils nationwide to deliberate on pressing local issues.

The three-day conference is backed by major institutional partners including the principal sponsor, Nickel Asia Corporation.|
