TANAUAN, Batangas — Philippine Manufacturing Co. of Murata, Inc. (PMM) continues to cement its position as a major driver of sustainable industrial growth in CALABARZON, running its expansive manufacturing operations entirely on renewable energy while providing thousands of jobs to the local workforce.
Located at the First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP) in Tanauan, Batangas, PMM currently operates three buildings. Established in September 2011 and beginning commercial operations in March 2013, the facility has grown into a vital asset for the local economy.
As of July 1 this year, the plant employs 4,926 workers out of the company’s 78,000-strong global workforce. This massive employment footprint provides a significant boost to the Philippine economy, particularly in Batangas, by generating steady household incomes, stimulating local businesses, and elevating the province’s status as a premier hub for high-technology electronics manufacturing.
PMM is a proud subsidiary of Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a global electronic components leader headquartered in Kyoto, Japan. Founded in 1944 by Akira Murata, the parent company has expanded into a worldwide network spanning over 30 countries. Murata dominates the global market for Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors (MLCCs), capturing an estimated 40% market share.
The company is recognized as the world’s leading manufacturer of the smallest ceramic capacitors, with its smallest standard commercial size at 0.25 mm by 0.125 mm, while continuing to push the current industry limit down to 0.16 mm by 0.08 mm.
PMM stands as Murata’s first overseas production site to operate on 100% renewable energy. The Batangas plant sources its clean power from a mix of renewables, utilizing 95.5% geothermal energy, 4.5% solar power, and 0.001% wind turbine generation. The geothermal energy utilized by the facility is notably supplied through a partnership involving the Bacon-Manito geothermal facility in the Bicol region.
The primary products manufactured at the site are critical components in modern technology. These MLCCs temporarily store and discharge electricity, absorb noise signals, extract specific frequency signals, and block direct current while allowing alternating current to pass. Because of their high reliability, MLCCs are essential not only in mobile phones, home appliances, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, but also in advanced automotive, medical, and aerospace equipment.
Murata’s relentless pursuit of innovation is heavily guided by its corporate philosophy, known as “Shaze,” which emphasizes advancing society and delivering impactful solutions beyond basic corporate social responsibility.
This commitment to technological advancement was recently highlighted last July 15, when Murata officially launched its new DE5 series. The launch introduced automotive safety-certified lead-type disc ceramic capacitors with Y1 Class Certification. These components are built with an extra safety margin to safely handle sudden, high-voltage electrical surges and provide superior noise suppression for the complex and demanding electrical systems of modern vehicles.|
